Lanzarote, one of the Canary islands off the coast of West Africa administered by Spain, is known for its year-round warm weather, beaches and volcanic landscape. Luxury Lanzarote Holidays – the ultimate paradise of the world.
Luxury Lanzarote Holidays – the ultimate paradise of the world
The island is only 60 kilometres long, so it’s easy to get out and about. In the south, you’ve got beach resorts like Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Playa de los Pocillos, while in the north, you’ll find little fishing villages and family-run seafood restaurants.
Things to do in Lanzarote
This postcard-pretty spot has twice been named Spain’s loveliest village. Wander around and you’ll find a tree-lined main square, a 17th-century church, and a clutch of traditional tapas bars.
Have a meal with a difference in Timanfaya National Park
The Fire Mountains – craters of 100-odd volcanoes – form the centrepiece of Timanfaya National Park. The temperature just below the surface can still reach a scorching 600 degrees, and chefs at the Manrique-designed El Diablo restaurant take full advantage of this.
Instead of using ovens, they’ll grill up your lunch using the geothermal heat.
Peek inside Manrique’s former home
Built back in 1968, Cesar Manrique’s house is as unique as his artworks, using volcanic bubbles and caves for the main rooms. The art gallery here is also worth a look – as well as creations by Manrique, you’ll find works from Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró.
All over the island, you see the influence of the visionary artist, architect and environmentalist César Manrique, who saved Lanzarote from the ravages of rampant development. His extraordinary creations accentuate the unique geology of the island and are now its main tourist attractions.
You could easily spend a few days visiting the places he designed, particularly as quite a few also house stylish bars and restaurants.
Playa Blanca – one of the classiest little spots in the Canaries
Lanzarote is home to one of our most popular family hotels, but that’s not all this little island has to offer families. There are big sandy beaches, many of which are backed by pushchair-friendly promenades, and the cooling sea breezes mean the island doesn’t tend to get uncomfortably hot, even in the height of summer. Waterparks and volcano walks make for fun activities with school-age kids – ask your concierge for more tips on family-friendly places to go.
The general sense of relaxation is added to by the fact that Playa Blanca is all there on your doorstep and is one of the classiest little spots in the Canaries.
In the evening we’d step out, head down to the beach bar in front of the hotel and watch the sun set over Fuerteventura. Wandering up the promenade to the town proper with a couple of beers in you, you’d realise that it is actually a beautiful place, even if it is touristy.
You can go to the Canaries at any time of year and have good weather more or less guaranteed. Sure, it gets windy sometimes and storms aren’t totally unknown, but most of the time it is sunny with an average temperature of 22C.
Even when the islands are at their hottest, in July and August, the temperature is usually only in the mid-twenties centigrade. Whenever you go, it is nearly always warm enough to swim and sunbathe.
